The impact of Breast Cancer in New Zealand
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Kiwi women, affecting one in every nine Kiwi women over their lifetime. Although it is less common, about 25 men are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in NZ each year.
85% of people with breast cancer survive 10 years or more. This jumps to 95% if detected on a screening mammogram. Whilst the mortality rate from breast cancer has fallen more than 30% in the last 30 years, tragically, more than 650 NZ women still die of the disease every year.
